Fidel and Sitsofe, two of The Sky House residents
Fidel and Sitsofe busy at their kente looms in our airy and well-equipped workshop on site.
Godsway, our first resident at The Sky House in Ghana
Godsway was our incredible first resident. He is a master Kente weaver and eager to contribute to all tasks. He is a gentle and positive leader of the house.
Divine, one of our Sky House residents
Divine is also one of our first residents. He had been hoping and dreaming of being a part of the Sky House for a very long time. A young man living with autism, he is a diligent worker. He creates the bobbins for our kente masters. He works with no thought other than doing what’s needed. Also helpful around the house.
Fidel and Delali, two of our original residents
Fidel and Delali. The other two of our first residents. We are excited to be in the process of helping Fidel establish himself outside of the Sky House. His kente skills are superior and warrant his transition. He will benefit from having his own space for those days when he is struggling to interact positively with others.
Delali, our first resident who is deaf, is a talented and industrious young man. Not only does he weave beautiful kente, he is also a wonderful tailor. He is kind and thoughtful.
Sitsofe, the first woman to join the Sky House
Sitsofe is the first young woman to join the Sky House. She is deaf, and was living in her family home, where she wove Kente when she could acquire the material, which was not often. She spent most of her time alone with no companionship. She now loves being at the Sky House with everybody. She is a constant advocate for others whom she feels would thrive in our midst. An amazing young woman who is a Kente master in her own right!
Juliette, a resident at The Sky House
Juliette is one of our latest residents to join The Sky House. She lives in the apartments built for our international director with Sitsofe, and works around the house and helps in the kitchen. Even with her one disabled hand, Juliette is eager to learn how to do some of the sewing for the Sky House.
Kafui, a resident at The Sky House
Kafui lives in the village with her grandmother and comes to us each day to help around the house. Though she is young woman who lives with developmental delays, she has a sunny disposition and is willing to help in any way she can.
Peace, a staple at The Sky House
Peace also travels to the Sky House from her family home. She brings her sweet little one with her. She is learning to be a seamstress with the guidance of our kente master and Delali.
Doris, our newest resident at The Sky House
Doris is newly with us to see if she will be a good fit to live at the Sky House. We are assessing her ability to weave kente, as well as whether she has other skills that will contribute to the sustainability of the Sky House. She is a young woman who is deaf. Sitsofe advocated for her to come.
Our Residents at The Sky House in Ghana
All of our residents recently got to celebrate the wedding of our Kente Master. They were welcomed and embraced. Our first two residents, Fidel and Godsway, were even asked to play the role of usher. It was an heartwarming experience.
